The lightness of the touch also contributes to the lack of muscle fatigue. Once the touch is right for Fazioli – the piano sounds amazingly beautiful on altogether different level and frankly I have never been able to play as softly as I did on Fazioli. Another words – if one is used to playing on any other brand of the piano one has to spend some time re-adjusting to Fazioli in order to truly appreciate what it can do in terms of the level of softness of the sound and the dynamic range. The reality is that they are very responsive to the touch and if the touch is not calibrated with understanding how sensitive the action is the velocity of playing is simply too much. I know that some pianists frequently voice an issue about all Fazioli pianos: that they are too loud. The touch is very responsive and light, which is typical for Fazioli.
The action is super even across the entire keyboard with the brightness of the top balanced with the powerful base.
Like with most Fazioli pianos this baby grand is an Italian supercar under the hood despite its modest size. In my personal opinion Fazioli F156 is the best baby grand out there. However the nature of the personal relationship between a pianist and a piano is subjective and therefore I will begin with the one I consider to be my dream baby grand. Objectively these instruments are all superbly made and are perfect contenders to land anywhere on that top 10 list. I will list them in my order of preference as it is such a personal subject matter to me. In this article I intend to highlight the top 10 baby grand pianos I think are the best. Time and again I discovered certain qualities that make a great baby grand piano stand out: the voluminous, rich sound, evenness of resonance across all registers and responsive, nuanced action capable of sophisticated touch and control. Whether at smaller performance venues, in conservatory classroom or a rehearsal studio baby grand piano is a ubiquitous companion of mine and I had the pleasure of clocking in hundreds of hours playing this essential musical instrument. Having been an active concert pianist for 30 years I have had the privilege to play some of the best pianos in the world.
